Clay Control Polymer 3C is a unique combination of a low molecular weight clay control polymer and potassium formate. Clay Control Polymer 3C provides effective clay stabilization through ionic effects.
Clay Control Polymer 3C is a high-performance substitute for KCl, and delivers performance equal to or better than KCl even at low dosages.
The addition of potassium formate greatly enhances the performance of the low molecular weight polymer, and permits better stabilization at application rates below where the polymer alone or potassium formate alone would be effective.
Normal clay control polymers depend on polymer length to stabilize clays; however, they are “torn” apart by increased shear. Since Clay Control Polymer 3C depends on its cationic charge for clay control, shear does not degrade its performance.
Clay Control Polymer 3C has high-temperature stability, low formation damage, and is compatible with most drilling, completion, workover, or workover fluids. Although cationic in charge, Clay Control Polymer 3C is completely compatible with anionic and nonionic surfactants.

Application Information
Application rate should be determined by testing on the specific shales to be treated. A normal treating rate is 1–5 gallons per thousand gallons (gpt) treating fluid for performance equivalent to 2% KCl. Reactive shales may require higher dosage rates, or the addition of more potassium formate for best inhibition.
